Enrollment Requirements

Students enrolling in this course must possess at least a Private Pilot Certificate and a valid medical certificate.

Course Objective

The student will obtain the aeronautical skill and experience necessary to meet the requirements for the addition of an Instrument Rating to the existing Pilot Certificate..

Completion Standard

The student will demonstrate through written tests, flight tests and training records that he has the necessary aeronautical skill and experience for the addition of an Instrument Rating to the existing Pilot Certificate. Completion of this Course is a prerequisite for advanced training and is not sufficient for any occupational entry-level pilot position.

Training Outline

Dual Instruction Cessna 172	35 hours
Ground Instruction	30 hours
Pre/Post Flight Briefings	10.5 hours
Instrument Pilot Kit
DPE Check Ride

The above training times are the minimum for this course. At the end of this course, the student may require additional instruction to achieve the proficiency level to meet the minimum standards for issuance of an Instrument Rating. The course cost does not include aircraft rental for the check ride.

Non-immigration students may require additional instruction to meet attendance hours required by federal law in order to maintain their status.

Training will be accomplished in the Cessna 172 airplane. The instrument pilot kit contains the basic text and materials for the course. The student may need or desire some additional text or materials.

Alaska State Student Loans and VA funding are available for the Instrument rating.
