Classroom ground school reduces student expenses and enhances efficient learning. For those more comfortable in a one-on-one tutoring environment, private lessons are available. Take Flight Alaska is owned by Flight Safety Alaska, Inc. Both private and Commercial Pilots have been training at our location for almost five decades. Thousands of people with a dream of flying took their first step in our classrooms and in our airplanes on the north side of Merrill Field. They trusted our commitment to safety and competence.

For those who decide to continue training beyond your private pilot rating, Take Flight Alaska offers instrument, multi-engine, and professional pilot training.

The Right Tools and Technology

Our ATC-810 Aircraft Simulator allows you to get a feel for flying with your feet still firmly on the ground. Structured classroom instruction and one on one intensive briefing and reviews both preflight and post flight.

Admissions Policy

Take Flight Alaska has an open door policy. Current students are both men and women, from Anchorage and throughout Alaska, including rural villages. Take Flight Alaska is also licensed to provide flight training to foreign nationals; the school does, however, require foreign students to be able to read, write and communicate in English.

Age Requirements
Student Pilot 16 years
Private Pilot 17 years

Financial Aid programs are available from Federal, Veterans, State of Alaska, Native American and Private sources for students, intent on becoming commercial pilots. Course prices are very competitive with overall costs well less than comparable out of state schools.

Training Outline

Dual Instruction Cessna 152 20 Hours
Solo Flight in Cessna 152 15 hours
Ground Instruction 35 hours
Pre/Post Flight Briefings 10.5 hours
Student Pilot Kit  
DPE Check Ride

 

The above training times are the minimum for this course. At the end of this course, the student may require additional instruction to achieve the proficiency level to meet the minimum standards for issuance of a Private Pilot Certificate. The course cost does not include aircraft rental for the check ride.

Non-immigration students may require additional instruction to meet attendance hours required by federal law in order to maintain their status.

Training will be accomplished in the Cessna 152 or the Cessna 172 airplanes. The student pilot kit contains the basic text and materials for the course. The student may need or desire some additional text or materials.

Based on acceptance of credit, private loan funds are available for the completion of this course. Alaska Student Loans or VA funding is not available for Private Pilot training.
